I am delighted to report that earlier this month the Protecting Condominium Owners Act, 2015 passed third reading in the Ontario legislature. Updating the Condominium Act has been one of my top priorities since I was first elected as a significant number of my constituents live in condos. There are 23,000 condominium units and some 120 towers currently standing in my riding. My Private Member’s Motion to review and update the dispute resolution mechanism of the Condominium Act, 1988 launched a complete review of the Act in Spring 2012.
The new act will increase protections for condominium owners, improve how condo corporations are run and ensure that condo boards are governed professionally. Learn more.
Ontario plans to move quickly to deliver upon the key commitments of this act. The province will continue to consult with members of the public and stakeholders to gather their expertise during the development of regulations and implementation of this important legislation.
